Whilst not a familiar figure, Chris Harris’ mother, Angela, was a Cypriot autocross racer, so Chris was exposed to cars from a young age. His first professional foray into the automotive industry was working for Autocar magazine, performing various menial tasks. But his hard work paid off, and he was promoted to an official road-test editor at the magazine, gaining recognition as an honest and knowledgeable automotive reviewer. He stayed at Autocar until 2008, when he co-founded the digital platform Drivers Republic. After trading for one year, the company shut down, and Chris went to work for Evo magazine as a reviewer.
In 2023, Chris released his memoir Variable Valve Timings, which made it onto Amazon’s Racecar Driver Biography bestseller list, and Amazon’s Motor Rallying and Rally Driving bestseller list.
Throughout his early journalism career, Chris was also a professional racing driver. He has driven cars, including a Formula Palmer Audi in his first race in 2000, a Porsche 911, a Renault Sport R.S. 01, Aston Martin Vantage GT12, and Jaguar E-Type. He has raced in global events, including the 24 Hours Nürburgring in 2010 and 2015.
Since then, Chris has created his own successful YouTube series, Chris Harris on Cars, and episodes for /DRIVE’s channel, driving cars and providing honest reviews to their 2 million+ followers. In just two years, the videos had over 3.5 million views.
He is most familiar for his work on Top Gear. First appearing in 2016 as a regular guest, he was promoted to a main presenter alongside former cricketer Freddie Flintoff and presenter Paddy McGuinness. His public image has grown in popularity over the years and has seen him appear as a guest on programmes including Good Morning Britain (2018), The One Show (2018-2022), Insert Name Here (2019). Celebrity Juice (2020), This Morning (2020), Sunday Brunch (2021), and A Question of Sport (2021),
In 2024, it was announced that Chris and Paddy McGuinness would front a new three-part BBC series titled Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping, which sees the duo travel to Greece, Sweden, and Switzerland to explore the secrets behind living a long and full life.
