Disability History Month Speakers

Why is Disability History Month Important?

Disability History Month runs from the middle of November to the middle of December every year and covers other awareness days such as COPD Awareness Month, Anti-Bullying Week and International Day of People with Disabilities.

Since starting in 2010, Disability History Month has covered a range of topics including mental health and wellbeing, relationships and sex, hidden disabilities, independence and inclusion, but it’s one of it’s main aims is to provide equality for disabled people in the workplace.

Facts!

  • In the UK, 1 in 5 people have a disability
  • 83% of disabilities are acquired during working age
  • In the 2020/21 financial year, roughly 14.6 million people in the UK had a disability
  • 5% of disabled people aged 16-64 were in employment compared to 81% of non-disabled people

The important thing to remember is that disability equality is a responsibility for all and not just for those living with a disability.

Find an Inspirational Disability History Month Speaker

It’s the sad truth that many people with disabilities still face prejudice in a world made for able-bodied people, and are therefore often overlooked. That’s where our inspirational Disability History Month Speakers come in.

With more and more businesses wanting to adapt and be more inclusive to their disabled employees – whether that’s a disabled toilet, wheelchair-friendly access or being allowed guide-dogs – our speakers can provide you with a better understanding and better opportunities for yourself and your disabled staff.

Featured Speaker – Ade Adepitan | Disability History Month Speaker

From Paralympic basketball player to popular TV presenter and author, Ade Adepitan is one of our most popular speakers on disability and inclusion. He works extensively in the UK, educating schools, charities and businesses about disability rights, inclusion, equality and discrimination. Ade is an inspirational speaker and was recognised in 2020’s Powerlist of the 100 Most Influential Black British People.
