Why Celebrate Pride Month?

Pride Month takes place every June and aims to promote the inclusivity of the LGBTQ+ community in the community and in the workplace.

The event aims to offer a safe environment to discuss LGBTQ+ issues, offer allyship and to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.  It is also an opportunity to raise awareness about pride in the workplace and to ensure that LGBTQ+ people are supported.

Employers can play a big part in creating this feeling of equality by providing them with a safe space to be themselves. Some employers may not know how to broach the subject, but it’s easier than you might think:

  • Educate your staff on different groups of people
  • Challenge exclusionary language and behaviour
  • Invite staff to share their own experiences
  • Be a friend and an ally – having just one person in your corner can reduce suicidal thoughts of LGBTQ+ people by 40%

By creating and promoting an inclusive and equal workplace, we offer the opportunity for employees to feel valued and respected, which promotes higher productivity and output. Therefore, a diverse team is a strong team.
