Olympian Anna Hopkin MBE is a record-beating gold-medal-winning swimmer, renowned for her exceptional achievements in freestyle sprint events.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Anna set a new world record time and won a gold medal as part of the mixed 4 x 100 metre medley relay team.
Anna took up swimming from a young age and her breakthrough came when she represented Great Britain at the 2017 World University Games in Taipei, where she won a bronze medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay. This achievement marked the beginning of her ascent on the international stage. Anna’s performances continued to improve, and she soon became a regular member of the British swimming team, competing in various international competitions.
In 2018, she was awarded the University of Bath’s Sports Personality of the Year, as voted for by her fellow students. Then in 2022, she was appointed an MBE for her services to swimming.
Anna has collaborated commercially with a number of top brands, including Speedo and Red Bull as well as being an ambassador for sports nutrition brand NutritionX.

Anna loved swimming as a child, which she took up at the age of 8 but it took a backseat at age 13 when she started to explore other sports. However, the love never went away, and she was back in the pool by the time she went to University.
She first attended the University of Bath, earning a degree in sports and exercise and then completed a Masters in sports and exercise at the University of Arkansas. It was whilst in the USA she gained huge global experience in the International Swimming League, which put her in good stead for worldwide competitions.

In addition to her Olympic gold, Anna has won over a dozen other medals at the World and European Championships and the Commonwealth Games. She has competed in the 4 x 100m mixed medley, mixed freestyle, individual medley and individual freestyle, the 4 x 50m mixed freestyle, and the individual 50 and 100m freestyle.
At the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, she was part of the English team that secured a bronze medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay.
One of Anna’s most significant career milestones came at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021). She played a pivotal role in the British mixed 4x100m medley relay team, which won the gold medal. Anna swam the freestyle leg in the final, which helped secure the victory. This historic win marked the first time Great Britain had won gold in this event at the Olympics, and it cemented Anna’s importance to the team.
In 2023, she won the gold medal at the 2023 British Swimming Championships in the 50 metres freestyle. This marked the third consecutive time that she had won the 50 metres event. At the 2024 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships, Anna won both the 50 metres freestyle and the 100 metres freestyle at the, securing her place at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
In recognition of her contributions to swimming and her outstanding achievements, Anna Hopkin was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 New Year Honours.
