Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson is Britain’s greatest Paralympic athlete, having competed in five Paralympic Games and winning 11 gold medals, 4 silvers and 1 bronze.

She is widely acknowledged as one of the most gifted and courageous sportswomen of her generation.

Tammi is also a Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords, motivational speaker and broadcaster.

In recognition of her service to sport, Tanni was made a ‘Dame’ in 2005, while in 2010, Tanni became a life peer and was conferred as Baroness Grey-Thompson with a position as a crossbench peer in the House of Lords.

More About Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE

Tanni Grey-Thompson’s Paralympic career started back in 1984 when she competed in the 100m at the Junior National Games for Wales. Four years later, her international career began in Seoul, where she won a bronze medal in the 400m. In the next four Olympics, Tanni won a four silver medals and 11 gold medals. She also won 13 World Championship medals (six gold, five silver and two bronze).

In addition to her outstanding Paralympic achievements, between 1992 and 2002 she won the London Wheelchair Marathon a total of six times.

In 2024, Tanni was part of Channel 4’s athletics presenting team at the Paris Paralympic Games.

Tanni has continued to be involved in sport and physical activity. She is a Board Member of the London Marathon, the Sportsaid Foundation, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Join In. In addition to this she is also a Board Member of several organisations including Transport for London, the London Legacy Development Corporation and the London 2017 Organising Committee.

In 2010 Tanni became an Independent Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords, taking the title Baroness Grey-Thompson of Eaglescliffe in the County of Durham. As a working peer Tanni uses her experience and knowledge during debates in the House and she has spoken on a range of issues including Disability Rights, Welfare Reform, and of course, Sport.

In 2007 Tanni published her book Aim High. In this inspirational book she shares what has motivated her through her best and worst times. The book describes how disability should never be a limitation and how with the right mindset, anyone can push themselves to succeed at almost anything.
