As a Professor of Criminology at Birmingham City University and as the Director of the University’s Centre for Criminal Justice Policy and Research, David Wilson is an expert when it comes to understanding the criminal mind.
David began his career as part of a team put together to design and run two units to hold some of Britain’s most disturbing prisoners.

Prof David Wilson worked at Grendon, Wormwood Scrubs and at Woodhill in Milton Keynes – where he designed and ran the two units for the 12 most violent prisoners in the country, which brought him into contact with virtually every recent serial killer.
David regularly appears in the print and broadcast media as a commentator and presenter.
David has reported on some of the country’s most high profile murder cases, including Meredith Kercher and Raoul Moat for Sky News and Tonight with Trevor McDonald.
David stars alongside actress Emilia Fox in three-part BBC One documentary Jack The Ripper: The Case Reopened re-examining the murders which took place in the Whitechapel district of London between August and November 1888, with new technology.

He also appeared as the Borstal Governor in ITV’s Bring Back Borstal and currently presents Killer Psychopaths on Channel 5 which was viewed by an audience of 1.3 million when it first broadcast.
In 2016, David moderated the sellout show ‘Making a Murderer’ at the London Palladium hosted the Channel 4 documentary, ‘Interview with a Murderer.’ The documentary went on to win Best Documentary at the Broadcast Awards 2017 and Royal Society of Television Awards.
David’s professional memoir My Life with Murderers was published in 2019. His current TV series is David Wilson’s Crime Files which he presents on BBC Scotland.
David has published over 50 peer review articles in journals ranging from The Howard Journal of Criminal Justice and Crime Media Culture to The Journal of Investigative Psychology and Offender Profiling, The Journal of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology and Criminal Psychology.
His subjects have ranged from prisons and penal reform to Serial Killers, Hitmen and Family Annihilators. He has written 15 books – most recently Pain and Retribution: A History of British Prisons (London: Reaktion) and his professional memoir published in 2019.
