Elon Perry is a journalist, historian, Professor of Middle Eastern History as well as being a former commando in the Israeli army.
As an experienced military analyst and geopolitics expert on the region he has been interviewed by international media for his military and terrorist specialist analysis, with appearances on the BBC, Sky News and Al-Jazeera.
Born and raised in Israel, Elon joined the Israeli Defence Forces as a teenager in 1975 and was enrolled as a commando in the Golani Brigade. After completing 3 years of mandatory service, Elon was a reserve combatant for 28 years while working as a journalist, columnist and editor on Israeli national newspapers.
For the past 15 years Elon has been a British citizen and lives in London.
With his extensive experience and knowledge of the Middle East, Elon is is a popular speaker at events, on panels, and for media channels wanting analysis on developments of conflict in the region, including between Israel and Palestine.
Elon Perry has lectured on the long history and politics in the Middle East, including the 100 years of the Israeli/Arab/Palestinian conflict.
Explaining the background between Israel and Palestine, Elon starts with history going back to 1917 when Jews first began immigrating to Palestine. Helping his audiences understand the complexities, he moves through to 1948 when Israel was established, and to the ongoing years of bloody conflict.
As an historian, military analyst and a former commando, Elon brings a unique offering to his talks, enabling his audience to gain first hand knowledge of operations and battles in a precise and analytical manner.
Prohibited from publication for 40 years, the operations Elon was involved in as a commando can now be shared and he recounts the battles and dangerous situations he experienced, including face-to-face battles in Gaza, Lebanon and the West Bank where bombs damaged his respiratory system.
In 2021 Elon published his book Golani Commando, Special Operation in the IDF, a frank memoir describing his grueling Golani training regime and contrasts the exhilaration of high-risk operations in enemy territory with a disdain for war and the moral dilemmas it creates. He is currently working on his second book, due to be published in 2024.

“It is not often that one has the opportunity of hearing not only a first-hand account
of current matters affecting Israel, but as the talk wore on, it was obvious that Elon, through his very personal and challenging experiences and his professional expertise, “gave it” to his audience in a very down to earth, no holds barred manner, which added to the interest and understanding of this long lasting and long-suffering situation.” Jeffrey Pinnick OBE
“It is highly interesting to hear a lecture on this subject from someone who was born and
raised in this volatile region, served in the Army and participated in the bloody conflict for 25 years. Someone who can tell stories and facts as they actually happened, and not as we were told by the media.” Prof Gill Atkins
“You gave us a remarkable perspective today, not only from a historical point of view, but as a former IDF fighter in countless combat zones, and as a journalist. Your time and explanation, given with facts and emotion, were much appreciated.” Abraham Group, JW3, London
