Jazmin Carlin – otherwise known as Jazz Carlin – is a double Olympic silver medal-winning swimmer.
With over 20 medals to her name, Jazz was nominated for the BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of the Year in 2010. In 2014, she became the first Welsh female swimmer to win a Commonwealth title since the 1974 games.
In 2019, Jazz announced her retirement from professional lane swimming. She is now a qualified personal trainer, participates in Open Water Swimming competitions, runs Swim With Jazz, and provides inspirational and motivational keynote and after-dinner speeches.

Jazz Carlin was born in Swindon but moved to Swansea in 2006 to train at the Wales National Pool, meaning she has represented England, Wales, and Great Britain over her career. She made a ‘splash’ the following year, participating in her first Commonwealth Games. But it was at the 2009 World Aquatics Championship Jazz would get her first taste of medal-winning, receiving the bronze medal alongside Joanna Jackson, Caitlin McClatchey, and Rebecca Adlington in the 4 x 200-metre freestyle relay. And the medals just kept on coming.
Jazz has a plethora of impressive medals hanging in her trophy cabinet for the 200, 400 and 800 metres, including four gold and four silver at the European Championships, one silver and two bronze at the World Championships, six gold at the British Championships, one gold and one silver at the World Cup, and one gold and one silver at the Commonwealth Games.
But things haven’t always been easy for Jazz. Before the 2012 Olympic qualifiers, she came down with Glandular Fever, and after a plague of illnesses, she took on the challenge. However, she finished fourth, and only the two top swimmers would be picked to represent Great Britain in London. She was devastated. But this time ended up being good for her. She had been in a lot of pain with her tonsils, so she had them removed, spent time with family and friends, and with their encouragement, eventually got back in the pool. Sadly in 2014, her coach of seven years announced he was moving to Australia just three months before the Commonwealth Games. She decided to join him in Australia for a six-week training period. This obviously paid off, as she hit her stride, breaking Welsh records in Glasgow.
Although Jazz no longer swims professionally, she set up Swim With Jazz, a platform that helps children and adults improve their swimming ability.
