John Robins is becoming a familiar face on our TV screens, having starred in much loved comedy shows such as Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Drunk History, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, Live at the Comedy Store, and Stand-Up Central.
He is also known for his partnership with fellow comedian Elis James. Their podcast on XFM, The Elis James and John Robins show, was an immediate success, receiving over 500,000 downloads a month. The show moved over to Radio X and then BBC Radio 5 Live. The pair have gained a reputation for their humorous, but often candid, honest, and sensitive discussions, including that of mental health, partnering with CALM and Mind.
Together, they have won a number of accolades, including the 2017 Chortle Award, 2020 Audio ad Radio Industry Award, 2021 Broadcasting Press Guild Award, and 2023 British Podcast Awards,, 2024 Chortle Awards.
At the 2024 Audio and Radio Industry Award, the show won the “Radio Times Moment of the Year” for an episode where John revealed his struggle with alcohol addiction, and his journey to recovery. He often tours and speaks to corporate clients about his issues with alcohol and his new sobriety.
John has also appeared on radio shows including The News Quiz, The Now Show, and Word of Mouth. Other podcasts he has featured on include Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, The Adam Buxton Podcast, and The Comedian’s Podcast.
