Referee Karl Dickson is a globally acclaimed figure in the sports industry, known for his roles as a professional Rugby Union referee and a former England and Harlequins player.
The pinnacle of his career came in 2023 when he officiated the quarter-final of the Rugby World Cup between Wales and Argentina, before serving as the assistant referee in the final between New Zealand and South Africa.

Karl Dickson’s rugby career started as a player when at Barnard Castle School, before graduating from the Bedford Blues Academy System. In 2004 he was promoted to their senior team, making over 100 appearances before joining Harlequins in 2009. He would continue play for them until 2017, when he announced his retirement from professional rugby playing. During this time, he also played for the England Squad, appearing in the 2012 Six Nations and their South Africa tour.
But his time on a rugby pitch didn’t end there.
He made his refereeing debut at the Reigate School 7s in 2014 whilst gaining his qualifications. In May 2017, it was announced he would join the Rugby Football Union’s Professional Game Match Officials Team (PGMOT), and he made his international refereeing debut in October 2020.
