In 2007, Laura Tobin joined the BBC weather centre as a broadcast meteorologist. She presented on various platforms from BBC One and the six o’clock news to Countryfile (1988-), BBC World, BBC Radio and Online.
In 2012, she became the Daybreak (2010-2014) team meteorologist and weather forecaster followed by Good Morning Britain (2014-), keeping viewers up to date during some of the most severe weather on record, the wettest summer for 100 years, severe snowstorms, Typhoon Haiyan and the wettest winter on record.
In 2015 and 2017, Laura was nominated for the TRIC Award in the ‘Weather Presenter’ category but unfortunately lost to Carol Kirkwood both times. In 2021, she was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Meteorological Society in “recognition of substantial contributions to meteorology in professional work.”
Among her other career highs are being the first person in the world to ride the infamous Smiler roller coaster at Alton Towers, presenting from farms, modelling hats at Ascot, and presenting the weather with Hollywood actor Steve Carrell and Kermit the Frog.
In 2017, she broke the Guinness World Record for filling and folding 11 pancakes in 60 seconds, a record that was broken a year later.
She has been a celebrity guest on shows including ITV’s The Chase, BBC’s Pointless Celebrities, ITV’s Tipping Point: Lucky Stars and BBC’s Celebrity Mastermind.
She joined 26 other celebrities to perform an original Christmas song called Rock With Rudolph, recorded in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, which made it to number two on the iTunes pop chart. She re-joined the group in 2020 to sing Merry Christmas Everyone in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society and Action for Children. Again, this peaked at number two in the charts.
With her wide range of experience, from presenting to meteorology to charity work, singing and Bon Jovi (her Mastermind specialist subject), Laura is confident in her ability to educate and entertain small and large audiences in a live or virtual environment.
