Nicholas Owen

Nicholas Owen started his journalistic career in newspapers before switching to TV in 1981 with BBC North, moving in 1984 to Ch4 News Business and Economics Correspondent. During the first Gulf War, he also presented the highly acclaimed Midnight Special Programmes, then went on to be ITV’s Royal Correspondent up until 2000.

During that time he reported on the death of Princess Diana and subsequently wrote a book on her life entitled Diana – The People’s Princess.

He has also written 3 other books on his love of railways and his autobiography published in 2012.

In 2007 Nicholas Owen returned to the BBC on the BBC News Channel, as well as being the main relief presenter for the BBC Weekend News on BBC One.

He also has a radio programme on Classic FM and contributes to a number of TV and radio programmes.

Away from the media spotlight, since the 1980s he has been a supporter of the charities Cancer Research and ActionAid engaging in various fundraising events.He is Ambassador of The Children’s Trust, for children with brain injury. Patron of Dyscover Ltd a Surrey-based charity for people following stroke or brain injury.
