Nick Bridge CMG has over 25 years of experience as a British diplomat, focussed latterly on the global climate and environmental crisis.
For six years, he was the UK Government’s Special Representative for Climate Change, having previously been one of the youngest ever British Ambassadors.
He brings his unique experience of global politics and the climate and environmental crises, as well as his working with six British Prime Ministers and eight Foreign Secretaries, working on global political, business, and civil problems.
Now a popular keynote speaker, Nick loves to connect deeply with his audience and speaks with passion, wit, and strategic insight about the solutions to our environmental problems.
He was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in the Order of the Knighthood (CMG) in the late Queen’s 2022 Honours for services to tackling global climate change; he received his honour from King Charles in 2023.

Nick Bridge CMG says his interest in public service stemmed from his father’s lifelong local government and charity work, as well as his favourite book, E.F Schumacher’s Small is Beautiful.
After joining diplomatic service, Nick travelled the world, becoming the first and second secretary for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, working in China and Japan.
He has also worked in the international finance facility for HM Treasury, where he co-led the negotiation of a $4 billion international financing facility to immunise half a billion people in the world’s poorest countries.
For the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Officer, he has worked as deputy chief economist and head of the global economy department, as chief economist, and counsellor for global issues – the latter being based in the USA.
He was one of the youngest ever Foreign Office senior leaders, and by his mid-30s, he was a British Ambassador and Governing Board member for the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and International Energy Agency (IEA) in France.
In 2017, he became the Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative for Climate Change. As Climate Envoy, he built the world’s largest network of climate diplomats and played a key role in the delivery of the UK’s Presidency of the UN COP26 climate conference.
Since leaving government in 2023, he has become a Senior Advisor for Smart Surfaces Coalition, advising a global coalition of civil, academic, government, and business partners committed to rapid, low-cost measures to help beat climate change. He is also the Strategic Policy Advisor to the Wellcome Trust-funded academic team at King’s College London assessing the impact of climate change on mental health and on poor and vulnerable communities.
