Philip Beale is a daring and fearless explorer, adventurer, and leader.
By the time he turned 21, he had already taken part in two expeditions in the Pacific region and Papua New Guinea. Notably, he embarked on a solo trek along the north coast of Papua New Guinea and ventured up the formidable Sepik River. In 2005, he engaged in a challenging rafting journey down the Firth River in northern Canada and, the following year, achieved a significant feat by completing the first skiing traverse of Liverpool Land in Eastern Greenland.
In 2006, he founded Pioneer Expeditions Worldwide, an adventure travel company, and remains actively involved in the business. His unwavering determination and drive keep him focused and enable him to motivate his teams to achieve ambitious objectives even in the most challenging situations.
One of Philip’s most renowned accomplishments is his pioneering work with replica ancient sailing ships, where he has sailed over 30 thousand miles, more than any living or historical sailors, taking charge of ancient-type vessels. His driving force is the desire to comprehend how ancient civilizations migrated through trans-oceanic voyages.
From his trans-Indian Ocean voyage in an Indonesian double outrigger ship (2003-04) to his most recent voyage in 2019, crossing the Atlantic in a replica Phoenician galley, Philip has continuously pushed himself to the limits of endurance. He has faced dangers such as navigating pirate-infested waters around Somalia in 2009 and battling 40 knot winds with a torn mainsail off the Cape of Good Hope.
Philip served as a seamanship officer in the Royal Navy before joining Robert Fleming & Co (now JP Morgan) in 1987, progressing to become a Director in 1993. He later assumed the position of Chief Executive of Morley Pooled Pensions in 2000, a £4 billion pooled pension asset management business owned by Aviva.
Philip has delivered numerous engaging speeches in both the UK and abroad, including in Jakarta, Delhi, Zanzibar, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City in the USA. During his presentations, he shares the valuable experiences and lessons learned from his adventures and business career, serving as a source of motivation and inspiration on topics such as leadership, teamwork, overcoming adversity, negotiation, and project management.
