Starting out as an actress, Romilly Weeks moved into broadcasting, starting at ITV in 2005 as a newscaster and royal correspondent, before being promoted to a political correspondent in 2012.
She has presented live from countries as far and as wide as the UK and US, France and Australia, Ukraine and Thailand. She was embedded with the British Army in the Second Gulf War, and again during the Iraq War, was caught up in a sniper-fire in Basra, and reported live from Thailand after the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. She has sharpened her live and recorded interviewing skills on the likes of Prince Harry, Margaret Thatcher and John Howard.
As a royal correspondent, she has covered five royal tours, two weddings and two funerals, as well as reporting on the inquest into Princess Diana’s death. She has interviewed Prince Harry, had Prince Philip eavesdrop on her pondering on his marriage, and caged a lift in Prince Charles’ helicopter whilst in Pakistan. Most famously, Romilly interrupted her maternity leave to report from Westminster Abbey at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge where she interviewed esteemed guests and family friends of Catherine Middleton. She has a close working relationship with the royal family and is one of the ambassadors for Prince Charles’ charity, The Prince’s Trust.
Romilly is very passionate about promoting the concept of a woman being able to have a family and also keep her successful career:
“Coming back to work after having children, it takes a while to find your feet again. It was also a good movement to have a pause and think about where I wanted to go with my career. I had been a general news reporter and also royal correspondent, but it was pretty clear to me that Westminster was the place where the most interesting paths were leading.”
Most recently (2022) Romilly has reported from Ukraine, on the Russian conflict. In one live broadcast, air raid sirens were heard in the background and she had to combine presenting with finding a safe space. Refusing to bow down to the attacks, she vowed to “carry on” with her live broadcast.
Whilst predominately a television newscaster, Romilly has been heard on the radio and has contributed articles for well-known publications. Her news stories and articles have been featured in the likes of The Daily Mirror, The Daily Express, Mail Online and The Evening Standard.
Romilly is a well-known TV presenter and newscaster, which is reflected in her popularity as a keynote speaker. She is also a familiar face on the event circuit, hosting corporate events and moderating conferences, particularly if they’re politically themed.
Romilly is also available for voiceover projects as a celebrity voice at Great British Voices.
