Former BBC Newsnight Economics Editor, Stephanie Flanders is an economist, journalist, broadcaster, presenter, former Senior Advisor to the US Treasury Secretary, and current Senior Executive Editor for Economics at Bloomberg.

Stephanie Flanders’ economic career started at the London Business School and Institute for Fiscal Studies before she moved into economic journalism at the Financial Times in 1994. After three years, she was appointed as the advisor and speechwriter for the US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, where she stayed for four years before joining the New York Times as a reporter. She also sat as the Principal Editor of the United Nation’s 2002 Human Development Report during this time.
After another year in the US, she returned to the UK to work for the BBC as their Economics Editor, presenting specialised episodes for Newsnight and the BBC news channel. Her talent saw her become the BBC’s Economics Editor in 2008, where she could be found presenting across a plethora of BBC television channels and radio stations, including Masters of Money, Stephanomics, and The Andrew Marr Show.
Moving away from the TV side of things, she joined J.P. Asset Management in 2013 as their Chief Market Strategist, before joining Bloomberg four years later as Senior Executive Editor for Economics and Head of Bloomberg Economics.
Her professional experience and talent for conveying heavy subjects have seen her receive numerous awards and prestigious positions. In 2010 she won the Harold Wincott Foundation’s Award for her appearance on Stephanomics. She also won their Broadcaster of the Year award in 2011 and the Political Studies Association’s Broadcaster of the Year in 2012. In 2019 she was made an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College Oxford and a Fellow of the Society of Professional Economists.
