During his time in South Africa, he reported on many troubling headlines from Rwanda, Congo (then Zaire) and Zimbabwe.
Other foreign assignments took him to Bosnia during the war and to America where he covered as Washington correspondent on several occasions.
Steve has reported on some of the most groundbreaking headlines during his career as a news anchor, including the Boxing Day Tsunami and the 7/7 London bombings from which he hosted an extended live coverage for ITV.
He also regularly films on location, having presented two series of Nightwatch (ITV) and reported for from South Africa for ITV’sNews at Ten, during the football World Cup.
Two of Steve’s one-off documentary-style features on summer floods and the funeral of Britain’s last surviving veteran of World War I, Harry Patch, were both nominated for a National Royal Television Society award.
He has interviewed the likes of cabinet ministers to sporting icons and celebrities, including Nelson Mandela and Princess Diana.
On the radio, he has hosted several programmes for BBC Radio 5 Live, including the award-winning programme, Drive.
More recently, he has become a regular contributor to the Bristol Evening Standard, as a weekly columnist.
