Sue Holderness is one of the UK’s longest standing and much-loved actresses, best known for her iconic role as Marlene Boyce in the BBC1 sitcom Only Fools and Horses (1981-2003). Sue played this role for almost twenty years, from 1984 until the very last episode. Such was the popularity for the character, she and her on-screen husband played by the late John Challis were asked to co-star in the spin off show, The Green Green Grass (2005-2009).
In addition to her vast television work, Sue has also worked extensively on the stage, for the West End and on multiple National Tours.
A star of both the small screen and the stage, Sue is instantly recognisable and universally loved by her audience, and with great humour and a fabulous personality, Sue makes for a great speaker and event host.

Sue Holderness initially trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama before beginning her acting career with Manchester’s 69 Theatre Company. She has appeared in local and national performances of shows including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Vagina Monologues, How the Other Half Loves, The Female Odd Couple and Calendar Girls. She has also become a regular in pantomimes; she was the wicked queen in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the wicked witch in Beauty and the Beast and the good fairy in Jack and the Beanstalk.
Sue reunited with her Only Fools… co-star David Jason when she joined the cast of Still Open All Hours (2013-) as Mrs Rossi. She can also be seen starring in EastEnders (1985-), Holby City (1999-2022), The Madame Blanc Mysteries (2021-), Doctors (2000-), Casualty (1986-) and Cold Feet (1997-2020), amongst many more.
She is a now popular face on the speaking circuit, having spoken on P&O cruises among the like of the now-passed footballer Jack Charlton, at events in Hereford Cathedral; she attended Roster Con and has spoken at Southend Theatre about her career and live shows.
