CLUB CAREER
Tyrone Mings was born into a footballing family; his father Adie Mings was a former non-league striker. He would join Southampton as an eight year old, where he stayed for eight years before the funding was cut.
He would go on to play for the likes of Eastleigh FC, Yate Town and Chippenham Town, combining his non-league career with jobs as a barman and a mortgage advisor.
He hit the big time when he was loaned to Aston Villa in January 2019, signing permanently with them five months later. He became a standout player, quickly becoming a fan favourite early on in his time there. He played in the 2018-19 EFL Championship Play-off Final which saw the team promoted to the Premier League. Football games were halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but after their resumption, Tyrone signed a four-year contract with the club and became captain in August 2021 after Jack Grealish’s departure – a position that was removed in July 2022.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER
He was selected for the England squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament after his debut in 2019. Unfortunately, whilst the team won 6-0, the game was overshadowed by racist chants by Bulgarian fans, which was reported by Tyrone Mings himself. This was not to be the last of the racism. Following England’s defeat on penalties in the final, three England players – Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho – suffered severe online racist abuse for their shootout misses. Tyrone responded to a tweet by then-Home Secretary Priti Patel declaring the government had not been vocal enough in their anti-racism messages. Tyrone would go on to score his first international goal for England in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification.
THE TYRONE MINGS ACADEMY
The Tyrone Mings Academy is aimed at children aged six to sixteen in the South West and Midlands area. It was born from a passion of keeping football fun for children, and this is the core value for their coaching sessions. The overall aim of the academy was to ‘provide additional, high-quality training session for any child aged 6-16 from grassroots to academies that would like it’.
CORPORATE
Tyrone has been a popular choice for a keynote speaker at footballing and business events around the country. In 2019, he was a guest speaker at the AFC Business Event in Bournemouth, then in 2022 he co-hosted a Q&A charity event with Aston Villa to raise money for the Aston Villa Foundation. He also worked alongside Aston Villa to highlight black football community achievements in the West Midlands.
